REACH
The new Regulation for the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH – Regulation [EC] No. 1907/2006) has been in force in the European Union since 1 June 2007. The REACH Regulation establishes a uniform legal foundation in all European Union member states and affects all manufacturers, importers and users of chemicals in the EU.
“This Regulation should ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of substances, on their own, in preparations and in articles, while enhancing competitiveness and innovation. This Regulation should also promote the development of alternative methods for the assessment of hazards of substances.” (Regulation [EC] No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and the European Council of 18 December 2006).
The production companies of the OSTCHEM Group have appointed OSTCHEM Germany GmbH as the sole agent for all REACH-related issues. Substances already manufactured by OSTCHEM, also known as “phase-in substances”, were pre-registered with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in 2009. The definitive registration of these substances is currently being prepared and is scheduled for autumn 2010.
